OUT BY SIXTEEN

11/19/2021: babby's first blog post

So I guess I'm starting a blog. I've been thinking it could be a fun thing to do. The plan for now is just to talk about music and movies and maybe books that I've listened to/watched/read. Don't really have much more to say about it right now

music i've been listening to

The Pom-Poms

I didn't realize until a couple days ago that Kitty Pryde and Sam Ray from Teen Suicide got married. Personally I think that they're a very cute tumblr celebrity couple. Honestly I'm not a fan of most of their songs but I've had Full Circle and 200 Grams on repeat.

Baby Teeth (New Alice Glass Single)

it goes hard and we love her. I'm excited for the new album.

Tarantula - Azealia Banks

I guess this came out right before halloween and I somehow missed it. Anyway it's Azealia Banks trying to sound like the guy from interpol and singing about eating Grimes and Elon (???) I love it so much. Link here

More Sophie Remixes (RIP)

for me it's the Sophie remix of clown shit by BABYNYMPH and BAYLI

Wednesday

I went to the Wednesday show at the Central Square Elks Lodge on tuesday (11/16/2021) It was OK.

The show was sold out and there were a lot of people there. Part of the reason I wanted to go to the show was that I hadn't been to a straight up indie rock show since way before the pandemic and I sometimes like the low expectations of an indie rock show. Like if I go to a goth show or an emo show or a pop show I feel like I'm obligated to wear a unique and interesting outfit and look cool etc etc. But at an indie rock show the way you look cool is by dressing like shit and putting in no effort. I felt tired after work and went to the show and felt kind of resentful about how homogenous everyone's low effort indie rock outfits were (but also felt stupid for thinking that because a big part of the reason I wanted to go was so that I could wear my low effort indie rock outfit, which only differed from the average atendee by like 1.5 inches of pant leg diameter). Anyway I got some pictures of myself in the bathroom wearing my low effort indie rock uniform, which I was happy about

The first two bands were pretty mediocre. I caught the last song the first band played and was glad that I hadn't had to listen to the rest of their set. The second band was They are Gutting a Body of Water from Philadelphia, who were a little bit better but didn't thrill me. They had a gimmick where they would play drum breaks and noise loops in between their fairly standard indie rock songs. I was not fully sold but I liked that they had a gimmick.

I was impressed by Wednesday. They seemed like they really did not want to be there, but still put on a good show. After the first few songs, the singer started crying after each song and talking about how much she hated Boston. They cut their set short by about 4 songs. I don't really have much to add but they were genuinely a very impressive band and I enjoyed their set.

Movies I watched

Titane

finally got around to watching it. I was really into it at the start but got kinda bored towards the end. I don't really think it was the movie's fault, I just have no attention span. That being said, I think I liked it better when she was going around committing mass murder than when she was building a weird fucked up relationship with the 50 year old steroid user whose son she killed (???) Still a cool movie though and there were some really sickening body horror moments so maybe like a 6.5/10 for me.

Antiviral

I watched like 2.5 minutes of this and then had to stop because I was bothered by Caleb Landry Jones' face. Why does he look like that.

Books I read

Darryl by Jackie Ess

This was very upsetting. I think it's probably a good book because it evoked a lot of feelings in me, but I don't know how much I enjoyed it because I don't really like feeling depressed and dejected and upset.
